KLW working with CKA Architecture are delighted to have achieved a positive resolution at Wealden Planning Committee South last week to regenerate a brownfield site on the edge of Hailsham Town Centre with conversion and remodelling of a former Drill Hall and creation of 2 new apartment buildings to provide a total of 34 apartments.

KLW engaged with the Local Planning Authority via the pre-application process and during the application itself with detailed negotiations in order to balance and overcome the various constraints within the site including highways issues, heritage and design, financial viability, and drainage. The site is in an important and prominent gateway location to the town centre, partly within a Conservation Area at a key road junction. With a thorough and careful approach, we managed to sure a positive recommendation without reducing the number of units proposed, and demonstrating that it was not financially viable to provide affordable housing as part of the proposals. Additionally, we were able to demonstrate that the proposed development would not impose additional loads upon local drainage infrastructure.
