COTTAGE HOSPICE, FIVE ASHES, EAST SUSSEX

We are very pleased to confirm that the practice has recently secured full planning permission for the creation of a new Cottage Hospice in Five Ashes, East Sussex. The facility will be owned and operated by Hospice in the Weald and is the first of its kind in the UK. The new facilities provide the opportunity for the Hospice to reach out even more to the communities of Sussex and Kent and provide the highest standards of end of life care. The new building will also provide day support activities for family caregivers and will include a chapel where the parishioners of the Church of the Good Shepherd will continue their fortnightly Sunday service, in addition to the spiritual support it will offer to those in the Cottage Hospice every day of the week.

Following on from a lengthy period of gestation with extensive public consultation, it is particularly pleasing that planning permission was granted with overwhelming support for the new facilities. We hope that the new building and facilities will be made available in the latter part of 2017.

Nick Farthing, Commercial Director at Hospice in the Weald said “getting planning permission for the UK’s first Cottage Hospice was always going to be a big job, and clearly our main business is care and not property development – we needed to work with a planning consultancy that understood exactly what was needed for a successful application, and could break it down so that we too could understand. We found all the support and guidance from the excellent team at Kember Loudon Williams.
